Why the World Needs Another AvenalPress

Let’s address the elephant in the Facebook comments.

“Isn’t there already an Avenal Press?”

Sure. And there are three or four Avenal Citizen pages, about a dozen “What’s Happening in Avenal” groups, and at least seventeen people convinced they’re the unofficial spokesperson for the city because they own a keyboard.

So yes… there’s room for another one.

The difference is this one comes with a disclaimer.

Everything here is AI-generated, intentionally ridiculous, and designed to make everyone equally uncomfortable.

No pretending satire is investigative journalism.

No mysterious “sources close to the situation.”

No dramatic headlines ending with seventeen periods…

No “BREAKING!!!” because someone parked crooked at Express Pharmacy.

Just jokes.

If the mayor does something funny, they’re getting roasted.

If the council does something weird, they’re getting roasted.

If Rotary accidentally serves slightly burnt hot dogs, they’re getting roasted.

If we do something dumb, we’ll roast ourselves first.

That’s the deal.

For the last year, local Facebook has become an Olympic sport in rumor throwing. Every Tuesday felt like a season finale. Every meeting was apparently “the biggest scandal in city history.” Every blurry screenshot became constitutional evidence.

Seriously…

It got exhausting.

So we figured maybe Avenal deserved a place where the only thing intentionally manufactured was the comedy.

Besides, satire has a long history of reminding communities not to take themselves quite so seriously.

We also promise a few basic editorial standards.

  • We will clearly label AI-generated content.
  • We will aim our jokes in every direction, not just at people we disagree with.
  • We won’t disguise fiction as breaking news.
  • We believe laughter is healthier than another 247-comment Facebook argument.

And yes…

We also promise not to post photos of people in their underwear without permission.

Unless you’re a County Supervisor.

(Kidding. Probably.)

Our mission isn’t to divide Avenal.

It’s to remind everyone that after all the meetings, recalls, rumors, lawsuits, petitions, and Facebook dissertations… we’re still neighbors living in a town of about 13,000 people.

If we can’t laugh together once in a while, the algorithm wins.
