Only in government can you apparently get this result:
The County illegally started Avenal’s recall process without the City’s authorization.
But since the County went ahead and did it anyway, spent the money, printed the ballots, held the election, and generally drove the procedural bus through the guardrail…
the election still stands. 😂
So, translated into normal-person English:
“Yes, the County used the wrong process. No, they weren’t supposed to do it that way. But now that they already did it… congratulations, everybody.”
It’s the legal equivalent of being told you weren’t allowed to build a swimming pool in your front yard, but since you already filled it with water, might as well start selling season passes. ♂️
Of course, this is only a tentative ruling, so the legal circus may still have another act.
But for now, Avenal has learned an exciting new lesson in county government:
Permission is apparently optional if you move fast enough. 🎪
Satire. Mostly. The procedural headache, unfortunately, is real.
